Pimp my Buddie…ver. 4
I have here is my iBuddie version 4 laptop from ECS. It’s quite old but hey, it can still hold on it’s own. Running photoshop together with opened microsoft applications plus surfing the net… not bad for a Taiwan laptop loaded with Intel Pentium IV 2.40GHz, 512MB RAM, 30GB HDD, 15inch LCD and a combo drive. This laptop has no internal battery included because this unit is mainly called a “Desktop Replacement Laptop”. It’s the same as IBM’s G40 unit except that this has no internal floppy drive. The processor unit and the memory of this laptop are the same as those Desktop Computers. In short, upgrades like its processor and memory are less expensive than those ordinary laptops.
I pimped this laptop because when I bought this, the paint was already faded and has tons of scratches, but the good part is, all it’s peripherals and devices are in tip top condition. It took me an hour and a half to carefully remove all the parts… I don’t want to break something upon disassembly. Below is the picture after buying this and before getting ready to be pimped.
Before pimping…
First step was to prepare the materials for disassembly and painting. Carefully took all the parts without breaking something. Bought 2 cans of quality spray paint, 1 black and 1 clear high gloss paint for my topcoat. After painting the laptop, it took me 2 days to have it reassembled and before that, I had the painted parts wet sand with fine grit of sand paper and then applied rubbing compound on it. After this process, I hand buffed it and apply a small amount of expensive cleaner wax. Below is my pimped ECS A928 laptop…Super black-High gloss case.

After Pimping
Before I reassemble it, I made sure that all the internal parts are clean and dry. From Applying thermal paste to the processor to cleaning of 2 internal fans of the unit and more….
